Product Overview
The wedge anchor bolt is a heavy-duty mechanical expansion anchor designed for permanent fastening into solid concrete, grout-filled concrete masonry units and solid brick. When the nut is tightened, the wedge clip at the base of the anchor expands against the walls of the drilled hole, creating a strong, reliable hold that resists both static and dynamic loads.
DonMo Hardware manufactures wedge anchors in zinc-plated carbon steel for dry indoor applications and stainless steel SS304 / SS316 for outdoor, coastal and corrosive environments. Our wedge anchors are available in metric sizes from M6 to M20, with standard lengths ranging from 50mm to 300mm. Custom lengths and thread configurations are available for project-specific requirements.
Wedge anchors are widely used in structural and construction applications where high load capacity is required, including steel structure base plates, machinery mounting, guardrails, handrails, facade systems, pipe supports and electrical equipment mounting.
How Wedge Anchors Work
- Drill: Drill a hole into the concrete using a hammer drill with a carbide-tipped masonry bit. The hole diameter must match the anchor diameter (e.g., M10 anchor = 10mm hole).
- Clean: Remove all dust and debris from the hole using a wire brush and compressed air or a blow-out bulb. Clean holes ensure maximum expansion and holding power.
- Insert: Insert the wedge anchor through the fixture and into the drilled hole until the washer and nut are flush against the fixture surface.
- Tighten: Tighten the nut to the recommended torque value. As the nut tightens, it pulls the anchor upward, forcing the wedge clip to expand against the concrete walls.
Key Features
- High Load Capacity: Wedge expansion mechanism provides exceptional holding power in solid concrete, suitable for heavy-duty structural and machinery fastening.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can wedge anchors be used in hollow brick or aerated concrete?
A: No. Wedge anchors are designed specifically for solid concrete, grout-filled concrete masonry units and solid brick. They should NOT be used in hollow block, lightweight concrete, aerated concrete (AAC), or uncured concrete. For hollow base materials, we recommend sleeve anchors, hollow-wall anchors or chemical anchors instead.
Q: What is the difference between a wedge anchor and a sleeve anchor?
A: A wedge anchor has a split wedge clip at the tip that expands only at the bottom of the hole, providing higher load capacity in solid concrete. A sleeve anchor has a full-length sleeve that expands along the entire embedment depth, making it more versatile for different base materials but with slightly lower ultimate load. Wedge anchors are preferred for heavy-duty structural applications in solid concrete.
Q: Are wedge anchors removable?
A: Wedge anchors are designed for permanent installation and are generally not removable. Once expanded, the wedge clip is set in the concrete. The nut and washer can be removed, but the anchor stud will remain in the hole. If you need a removable anchor, consider chemical anchors with threaded rod or other removable fastening systems.
Q: Can I use stainless steel wedge anchors outdoors?
A: Yes. SS304 wedge anchors are suitable for most outdoor applications. For coastal areas with saltwater exposure, chemical plants, or highly corrosive environments, we recommend SS316 (A4) stainless steel for maximum corrosion resistance. Zinc-plated carbon steel anchors should only be used indoors in dry environments.
Q: Do you provide load test data or ETA certification?
A: We provide standard Certificate of Conformity and material test reports with every order. For projects requiring formal load verification, we can arrange third-party pull-out testing and provide test reports. ETA (European Technical Assessment) certification is available for specific product lines on request — please contact us for details and lead time.
